With only 51 miles on the odometer, this Garnet Red 2018 Yenko Camaro SC Stage II is essentially a new car—a limited-edition vehicle with 1,000 HP on tap courtesy of a custom-built 6.8L supercharged V-8 under that tall cowl hood. Camaro collectors know the Yenko name is magic, and it has been ever since racer and Chevrolet dealer Don Yenko began turning out highly modified Corvairs, Camaros and Chevelles from his dealership in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. Yenko wasn’t the first to manipulate GM’s ordering system to build fire-breathing street and track warriors, but he has since become arguably the most famous of the 1960s super tuners. The vehicles that bear his name have earned a much deserved place in history, not to mention a healthy intrinsic value. For the 21st century, Specialty Vehicle Engineering has picked up the mantle and is now producing low-volume, high-powered cars that not only wear the name but also reflect the spirit of that hard-charging dealer from Pennsylvania.
For 2018, SVE built its Stage II Yenko Camaros based on the 1LE version of the sixth-generation Camaro. Power comes from a modified LT1 engine, its aluminum block bored to 416 CI (6.8L) and equipped with a 4340 forged-steel crankshaft, H-beam connecting rods, forged-aluminum pistons and CNC-ported LT4 cylinder heads. Feeding the beast is an upgraded fuel-injection system and a high-capacity screw-type supercharger. Exhaust flows through custom, stainless-steel, long-tube headers with high-flow catalytic converters. The engine’s 1,000 HP and 875 lb-ft of torque are transferred to the 3.73-geared rear end through a beefed-up clutch and 6-speed manual transmission. Sticky Michelin Pilot Sport tires on 20-inch, 5-spoke wheels are tasked with getting all that power to the pavement. Just 25 of these Stage II Yenko Camaros were built in 2018, and the car wears its Yenko name proudly inside and out, including on a serialized number plate on the dashboard. |
